July on the Farm
July has arrived with lots of sunshine and the threat of a thunder shower everyday. Our farm hands are keeping extremely busy with their daily jobs.
We have a crew that spends their whole day on orange Kubota tractors mowing between the trees. Usually when they finish mowing all the rows it is time to start over again. Especially since the weather that we have had makes the grass grow. At least they get a real nice tan while working. I tell them most people pay to get tans like they have and they are trying to figure out how to get rid of the tan lines!!!
Another crew spends their time shearing trees for the Christmas season. We started shearing our Scotch Pine and White Pine at the end of June. Our goal is to have them finished by the 4th of July. They are currently shearing Blue Spruce and will then move onto our Fir trees. Most of our shearing is done by hand, but we use a back pack machine on our Douglas Firs, and then go through and do the tops by hand.
A couple of the workers spend their time getting the home farm set up for the Fall season. The mega corn maze is growing nicely and the design is all cut out in the field. We have a few new surprises for you this fall so be sure to visit.
Liz and I are keeping extremely busy in the office. This is the time that we place all of our merchandise orders for the fall. We work on our advertising and mailing list for the season.
I really enjoy writing about our life on the farm and I hope you have enjoyed this. Be sure to check back in August to see how things are going along here at Roba Family Farms.
