Summertime is the time to show off Old Glory in all her splendor. Here at the farm we proudly fly our colors for all to see. Memorial Day is the time to honor those we have lost, and especially to respect the dedication of our valiant veterans. Roba Family Farms celebrates that honor on our opening day in September by designating that day as “Military Appreciation Day” and opening the farm with an American flag raising ceremony, led by local veterans from surrounding communities.
The most popular time of year for decorating with a patriotic theme is from Memorial Day in May until Labor Day in September. It is the longest decorating season we enjoy, so now’s the time to sweep off the porch, hang that basket of flowers, place the cushions on the outdoor chairs, and hang a hammock in a tree. Now pour yourself a glass of Olde-Fashioned Lemonade and put your feet up.
Summertime … and the livin’ is easy!!! To best enjoy those lazy, hazy days of summer we should keep household decorating to a minimum. Following are a few ideas to keep your house feeling fresh and looking cool all summer long.
Remove all cool-weather clutter like afghans and throws. Pare down tabletop vignettes so dusting becomes just a few-minute chore. Pick up throw rugs that you can do without; a bare floor feels cool. Summertime fresh centerpieces could be a clear vase or pitcher full of whole, fresh lemons or limes, or treat yourself to a weekly bouquet of fresh cut daisies or zinnias. Be sure to rotate the citrus … mmmmmm… maybe Fresh Squeezed Lemonade. Finally, your summer signature scent should be light and airy, evoking romantic thoughts of a summer evening on the porch, or an afternoon in the garden. Candle choices could be lilac, melon, citrus, or one of today’s fresh herb scents like cilantro.
Spend some time in your outdoor living spaces. Your yard, porch, or patio can easily become an oasis for relaxation.
Enjoy your summer!!! Plan a picnic, go to a parade, and eat fresh peaches, because in no time at all it will be time for “Fun in the Fall” at Roba Family Farms. We’ll see you soon.
